Court oks reduction of EU funds for Italy's Apulia | neurope.eu






The European Court of Justice says that the financial aid the European Regional Development Fund provides to the Italian region of Apulia must be reduced by almost €80 million because of serious failings by the Italian authorities in the management and monitoring of the use of the EU funds which have led to systemic irregularities.Three audits between 2007 and 2009 established irregularities in the financial management of the operation programme for Apulia (PORA) for which the EU approved and made available €1.72 billion. In  lated 2009 the Commission reduced the aid by applying a flat-rate correction of 10% to the certified expenditure. Italy brought an action against that Commission decision before the General Court, with a view to obtaining its annulment.In its judgment delivered today, the General …
